Practical clipping notes

Blanket clip guide

A blanket clip retains a covering across the back and hindquarters while removing more coat from the neck and lower body. Discuss it when a smaller partial clip is no longer addressing sweating during work.

Agree the outline

There is no single line height for every horse. Describe the boundary and head and leg coverage explicitly. Ask a professional to mark it if you are uncertain. A photograph cannot assess your horse's coat and tolerance.

Keep the care plan realistic

Retained back hair does not remove the need for suitable shelter, checking and rug decisions. Plan who will check the horse when weather changes. A partly clipped horse still needs individual assessment.

Compare a trace

If the lower neck and belly are the main wet areas, a trace clip may be enough. Record why extra coat removal is needed and reassess after normal work. After-clip care covers the checks to organise.
