Bib and Irish clips for light work
A bib clip removes coat from the chest and underside of the neck. An Irish pattern uses a diagonal boundary towards the stifle, retaining more over the back and hindquarters. World Horse Welfare discusses both and notes the Irish clip as an option for light work.
Start with the problem
Decide whether clipping is needed. Note where sweat collects and whether drying is difficult after ordinary exercise. Discuss a small partial clip before progressing to a larger pattern.
A manageable first session
Arrange an experienced helper or professional and allow time without a fixed finish deadline. Agree optional areas and what will end the session. A neat line matters less than the horse being comfortable.
Review rather than copy
Record the boundary and assess the result after similar work. Keep aftercare checks in the plan even though much of the coat remains. Discuss a trace pattern if the smaller clip does not address the wet areas.
